http://zipcodezoo.com/animals/s/sylvilag鈥?/a>What is the taxonomic order of a cottontail rabbit?
yeah that's the correct order for Linean classification. There is no listed suborder etc.
However there are several species http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/si鈥?/a>
Well done on what you have so far. ';Cottontail'; is a loose grouping of similar species. There are eastern cottontails, swamp cottontails, Nuttall's cottontails, desert cottontails and more. All of these are genus Sylvilagus. In Arizona, we have the desert cottontail, S. audubonii, the eastern, S. floridanus, and the high-elevation Nuttall's, S. nuttallii, with the pygmy rabbit (S. idahoensis) found in Utah about 40 miles north of Arizona. For subspecies identification, check a book about the specific area you want.
