What is a good rabbit breed to go with a New Zealand White?

I want to get a second bunny so Luna don't get bored when Im busy, gone or sick and can't play with her.She is a New Zealand White rabbit, what would be a good breed to pair her with. She seems to be very playful and hyper. What is better a male or female, yes I will get them fixed, once i find a local vet and when Luna is older.

How do I introduce them?Do rabbits get jealous or each otherWhat is a good rabbit breed to go with a New Zealand White?
I would suggest a male rabbits about her size and age. If there is a size difference and they fight, there is a greater chance of injury to your rabbit. And if there is too much of an age difference, then when one gets old and dies, the other one is left alone and depressed. If she is hyper, then I would say that a calm rabbit is best for her. But if she's a baby, her personality is very likely to change. But since rabbits live in a matriarchal society, a calm boy is best for a hyper rabbit because he won't try to challenge her authority. Honestly, I would suggest waiting until ten days after her spay for the pairing. Make sure he's been neutered for at least ten days too.

Now, not all rabbits will like each other right away. They're choosy about their partners, just like you or I would be about a spouse. Get the boy from a shelter that will let you take him back and try another if the pairing doesn't work. Be prepared for a pairing to not work. Here are the steps:

1.) Put the two rabbits cages next to each other, a few inches apart. Let them observe each other.

2.) Without cleaning the cages, switch the rabbits cages every day. Don't let the cages get filthy however.

3.) After a few days, push the cages closer together. If they nip at each other, pull them apart again. If they're snuggling or grooming each other, then move on.

4.) Take the rabbits to a place where neither of them would feel possessive of. It should be about 8 by 4 feet. The floor should be tile or linoleum so if fights break out, the rabbits can't get traction and injure each other. Wear heavy shoes like sneakers or even hiking boots. The rabbits might attack your feet without realizing it's not the other rabbit. Plus have a broom handy. Have a litter box they've both used, a water crock, and some hay. These should be out of the way but still in the open.

5.) Put both rabbits in. One of three things will happen, they'll start fighting immediately, they'll ignore each other, or they'll touch noses and be in love. They'll probably do the ignoring thing though. They could spend a couple of hours ignoring each other.

6.) Luna will probably approach the boy first. She will chase him and may hump his head or butt. Don't stop this, this is normal. If he humps her and covers her entire face, then move it though. If she gets mad, she might bite his penis. If they start fighting, pull them apart with your broom or feet. Pick up one when they're separated. If they do fight, you can try again in a few days. If he just keeps running away, she'll get frustrated and attack him. These pairings don't typically work out, but you can try again.

7.) They might do this thing where one jumps over the other and hits their back with their feet. This is normal. You can tell if they're fighting if they draw their third eyelid. They'll both hump each other. It's either sex, dominance, or affection. Humping may be the bunny version of a hug at times. If they start circling each other, break it up. They'll get frustrated and start attacking each other.

8.) Finally, they'll stop chasing and humping one another and gradually nap closer and closer. This is a good sign. But still watch out when you put them in the cage. A fight may still break out.

Please please email me if you have any questions at all. I'm happy to help. And remember, this is the usual behavior, they may do something really unexpected. Just use common sense.

P.S. Luna is a really cute name! What is a good rabbit breed to go with a New Zealand White?
