How much fps is needed to kill a rabbit/bird from a 177 air-rifle?

You will often see 8fpe as the recommended minimum for hunting small game such as rabbit or squirrel, but, it's been my experience in over 30 years of hunting rabbit with spring piston air guns that 6fpe is fine so long as you use proper hunting pellets.

8.2gr at 575fps = 6.02fpe %26gt;That would be my recommended minimum %26gt;With an accurate head shot





.177 vs .22 %26gt;Lets take as an example a 1000fps .177 vs a 800fps .22 %26gt;out to 35 yards the .177 has the advantage, at around 35 yards the advantage begins to swing the way of the .22 %26gt;It has been my experience that almost all of my shooting is under 35 yards so I prefer the .177 %26gt;I have taken hundreds of rabbit and only a very few have been in the 40-45yd range





I prefer the RWS Model 34 by a wide margin over the Gamo - RWS Dynamite Nobel has been building high quality precision air guns for a very long time. Depends on the size of the game, but anything that shoots 500 fps or more should do it at close range.
Most .177 caliber air guns have at least a velocity of about 400fps. This is sufficient to get the job done. I would prefer to have something in excess of 600 fps.
Aslong as you have arounf 8ft/lbs it dosnt really matter how fast its going
a good .22 air rifle will take a bird out with no problem, and probably a nice size rabbit. if your aiming to use .177, id recommend something above 1000fps to be on the safe side...
