What should i do for my out side rabbit now thats its getting cold?

so i have a rabbit and he lives out side, but now that its getting cold i don't know what i should do with him.

He doesn't ever go in his hutch, he dugg a bigg whole where he sleeps, is there anything i should do for him? i don't want him to get tooo cold. What should i do for my out side rabbit now thats its getting cold?
Catch him, put him in his hutch with lots of straw. he will keep him self warm by growing extra thick fur. Don't leave him running free as he may get very wet and not be able to dry himself to get warm again .

Do not give him extra heating as he will shed the thick fur he grows to keep warm.

Rabbits are natural outdoor animals and are built to withstand some cold

Care sheets are free on my web site

I'm always leery of rabbits loose in the yard. He could be picked off my a stray cat or dig his way out of the yard. I'd recommend putting him back in his hutch or making him a secure pen.

Assuming bringing him inside isn't an option, most rabbits do fine outside in the winter. They are built to handle colder temperatures with a minimum of problems. There are some things you can do to help, though.

Make sure the hutch is sheltered in such a way that no rain or snow can hit it. If your rabbit gets wet, it won't be able to keep warm.

Make sure the hutch is protected from drafts as well. Cold wind blowing on your rabbit won't help with keeping him warm, either.

Check his water at least twice a day! Many rabbits actually drink MORE in the winter than they do in the summer, so you need to make sure he has water at all times. Also, if you live in an area where water can freeze outside, you need to make sure he has fresh UNFROZEN water. If you have his water in a bowl you might need to get a second one, that way he'll have water while the other bowl thaws out. If he has a water bottle you need to make sure the water inside the bottle hasn't frozen in the metal tube...even if the water in the bottle is good, if the tube is frozen he won't be able to drink.

Provide him lots and lots of grass hay, like timothy. Constant chewing and digestion will help keep him warm, and if he gets really cold, he can even nest in it.
well either bring him inside or hook up a heated light bulb (regular works pretty well too) to his cage and cover the cage we did that with my dogs dog house when she had to be outside in the winter during the day-it was warm in there and she seemed to like it ok
I used to put straw in my rabbits acges in the winter. When it gets really cold you can place a blanket over the cage to keep the wind/snow out!
I hope you're not a member of PETA, but rabbits wear (gasp!) fur. Very politically incorrect I know. And what's really cool, is that in winter, the fur coat gets real thick. In fact, the little bunny can survive nicely in sub-zero weather in a snowbank. Sounds like he's trying to build a shelter to keep out of the wind. Of course, if you're still concerned that he's not warm enough you could go to Pets R Us and buy one of those little solar-powered electric blankets they sell just for rabbits. And maybe knit him some little booties and a scarf and a tiny wool nose-warmer. (Just don't tell PETA your rabbit wears fur.)
Feed him a lil more and keep his hutch open so he can go in whenever..
My cousins had an outside rabbit. They left his cage outside in the chilly weather, but made sure to watch the news to see when the temps would be dropping significantly then they would move his cage into the garage for a few nights. You don't want him getting too used to the warmth, otherwise he might get sick. Good Luck!
I have two outside rabbits and in the winter we move their hutches into the garage. Watch the weather, if it gets below 40 then you should either move them or give them a llllloooootttt of hay (they like either alfalfa or coastal)!!! Check the bottles constantly, because they will freeze. And in the winter they will eat more.
Put in twice as much hay and starw to keep it warm. Feed it a tweeny bit extra. Most rabbits eat alittle more when it is cold.
make him a inside bunny
