My rabbit just had babies a few days ago and now she keeps jumping into the nesting box and digging why is she?

I'm scared that she might hurt the babies and is it ok if i pick up the babies will this keep her from taking care of them?My rabbit just had babies a few days ago and now she keeps jumping into the nesting box and digging why is she?
This is just something does (females) do sometimes.

Have you checked the kits (babies) to make sure she is caring for them and to make sure there are no dead or deformed ones in the nest box?

If you have not then you do need to check them.

Give the mom a treat and while she is busy with it pull the nest box out of the cage and check the kits. if any are dead remove them. If any are deformed then they should be removed and humanely euthanized.

To check that they are being fed- hold one kit at a time in your hand. if their bellies are round and full looking, mom is doing her job. If the are skinny and wrinkly looking she is not caring for them.

After they have all been checked place them back in the box and return the box to mom.

If she is not caring for them please email me privately and I can give you some pointers on how to get her to feed them.

They should be checked everyday at approximately the same time everyday. My rabbit just had babies a few days ago and now she keeps jumping into the nesting box and digging why is she?
did she bite her hairs off and made the baby bed before she gave birth?

if not, u better give her something to make her nest.

don't separate babies from her... give her some kind of shelter.. for us, we provide our bunnies with very soft towel and wrap around the babies.

Do not touch the babies or she will reject them. Provide her with lots of bedding and don't clean out the nest area. If she is actually damaging the babies then you may need to remove them and hand rear them but this is a very last resort option as many won't survive.
